Do you want to make Chai Latte? This is our Masala Chai recipe
The classic tea drink Masala Chai, also known as Chai Latte – is made by mixing black tea, warm milk, herbs and spices. The tea is consumed by millions of people in India and is now becoming increasingly popular in the rest of the world. Masala Chai tea is perhaps the most favorite drink in India, especially during the cold winter and rainy season. The tea drink is known for keeping the body warm.
The spicy tea drink is sold all over India by the so-called Chai Wallahs. A Chai Wallah in India is someone who prepares the Masala Chai. Each Chai Wallah has its own preparation method and can adapt it to the season. The tea is poured from large kettles in small cups.
Masala Chai is often incorrectly shortened to Chai, which simply means"milk tea". Masala refers to the combination of herbs.
The recipe or preparation method for making Masala Chai is not fixed. In India, many families and Chai Wallahs have their own recipe for making their perfect Masala Chai tea. The base is usually a strong black tea, so that the herbs and sweeteners do not predominate. Masala Chai almost always has the basic elements of water, tea leaves, milk, sugar and ginger. Other common ingredients are: ground cardamom, lemongrass, cloves and cinnamon.
Our Masala Chai (Chai Latte) - Classic loose tea is a flavored blend of black Assam tea and spicy spices with a spicy taste of ginger, pink pepper and cloves. Even without the addition of milk, this tea is highly recommended.
Preparation of Masala Chai / Chai Latte
As described above, there is no specific preparation method for making a Masala Chai / Chai Latte tea. We advise:
- Put 1-2 heaped teaspoons of Masala Chai tea in a tea filter and place the filter in the cup / tea glass.
- Pour freshly boiled hot water over the tea filter in the cup / glass, up to about 2/3 of the glass.
- Let the tea steep for at least 10 minutes.
- Pour warm milk into the cup or tea glass about 1/3 of the cup / tea glass.
- Add a dash of honey and enjoy!
Chai Latte without black tea
You can think of endless combinations to make a well-seasoned Chai Latte. We have several spicy teas in our range:
Masala Chai Chai Latte - Green tea
This green tea based Masala Chai is more mildly spiced and less spicy than our India Masala Chai. If you find the classic India Masala Chai based on black tea too strong, this is a good alternative.
Masala Chai Chai Latte - Rooibos
This unique Masala Chai blend is based on rooibos tea instead of black tea. It is delicious both with and without the addition of milk. As a Masala Chai, this variant with rooibos is a good caffeine-free alternative to the classic Masala Chai based on black tea.
Herbal Masala Chai (Chai Latte)
Another caffeine-free alternative is this Herbal Masala Chai blend. The spicy herbs typical for Masala Chai tea, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cloves and star anise, are sweetened with the taste of apples. There is no black tea in this mix. You can add black tea yourself, but this herbal blend is also highly recommended without the addition of black tea.
Of course you can also drink all Masala Chai tea blends without adding milk. Or try the Masala Chai tea blends with almond milk, oat milk or soy milk!
