Masala Chai is a classic flavoured tea drink made by mixing black tea, warm milk, Indian herbs and spices. This green tea variety has a fresh, spicy taste with a classic hint of ginger and cinnamon.
The recipe of the preparation method for making Masala Chai is not fixed. In India, many families have their own versions of the tea and the method of preparation. The base is usually a strong black tea, such as Assam, so that the herbs and sweeteners do not predominate. Masala Chai almost always has the basic elements of water, tea leaves, milk, sugar and ginger. Ground cardamom, lemongrass, cloves and cinnamon are also common ingredients.
This Green Masala Chai is slightly spicy and less sharp than our India Masala Chai. Even without the addition of milk, this tea is an absolute treat (nice and sharp!). As a Masala Chai, this variant with green tea is a good alternative if you find the classic India Masala Chai based on black tea too spicy.
Preparation of Masala Chai
As described above, there is no specific method of preparation for making a Masala Chai tea. We advise:
- Pour warm milk into a tea cup or glass (about 1/3 of the cup / glass).
- Place 1-2 full teaspoon(s) of Masala Chai in a tea filter and place the filter in the tea cup / glass.
- Pour freshly boiled hot water over the tea filter into the tea cup / glass.
- Let the tea steep for at least 10 minutes.
-Add a dash of honey if you like and enjoy!
